Local Greater Boston jam band Niteshade was in need of a poster to kick off their residency at the popular Cambridge music venue Middle East. The band members were looking for a retro aesthetic that called back to psychedelic illustration style of the 1960s-70s. Three color variants were created for the final design, one in dark purple the band used in previous posters, and two in more 70s-era colors—specifically the orange, yellow and and green tones.
